About Robot Vacuum Test
Research-based guides and comparisons, with hands-on testing planned when units are available - everything labelled for what it is.
The problem we are trying to fix
Most robot vacuum coverage answers the wrong question. It ranks products by an overall score, as if every home were the same room.
Homes are not the same room. A robot that wins every award is worthless to you if it cannot cross the 28 mm lip into your kitchen, cannot get out from under your sofa, eats the fringe on your hallway rug, or jams its dock with hair every third day. Those failures are why robot vacuums get returned, and almost nobody measures them.
Home Fit
Home Fit is the category we built this site around. Instead of asking “which is best?”, it asks “will this one work in your home?” - and focuses on the measurements that decide real use:
- Threshold climbing, on a 10-90 mm ramp
- Minimum furniture clearance, in 1 mm increments, entry and escape measured separately
- Dock footprint including the clearance it actually needs
- Rug, fringe and black-surface behaviour
- Long-hair and pet-hair handling, with pickup separated from tangle
- Cable and obstacle avoidance
- Camera and cloud requirements, verified with the internet blocked
- Noise at a fixed distance, in every mode that makes noise
- Annual consumables cost at verified prices
- Parts and support availability over time
We are building a Finder that will let you enter three measurements from your own home and filter against those numbers. It is not live yet and will publish with the first measured dataset.
How we work
Most of what we publish - guides and vs. comparisons - is built from research: manufacturer specifications, verified prices and linked sources. These pages say so, and they never carry a “Tested” badge. If and when we physically hold a unit, it will run through one published protocol and any results will be published raw. Every page states clearly which of the two it is.
Brands cannot approve, preview or influence anything here. That is a written policy, not a sentiment - see editorial independence.
How this is funded
Affiliate commission on purchases readers make through links on this site, at no extra cost to the reader, disclosed on every page that carries one. Commission never affects a result or a ranking. Read the affiliate disclosure.
Who runs it
A one-person research operation with planned testing, based in Germany and publishing in English. Meet the tester, or get in touch.
